Each year in mid-summer town of Siena holds probably the most passionate and awe inspiring celebrations in every of Italy, a number of horseback races known as the Palio di Siena, a Medieval tradition that is still alive and well in our contemporary world. The participants inside the race are residents from the town’s 17 wards, or “contrade”. The race is dedicated to the Madonna which is highly competitive. The horses gallop at breakneck speeds round the Piazza del Campo on the center of town, and also the winning contrada gains bragging rights that can last a long time.
