Each pass admits 4 people to Scrap Junction, an interactive area where creativity and learning meet. There are 4 to 5 hands on centers and one make & take area.  Fun for all; small pieces make it suitable for ages 3 and up.  Visitors may also stuff a bag, choosing from over 300 unusual recycled industrial materials.  Cost is $7 for a full grocery bag, $3.50 for a half bag.  Kits are available for individuals or groups.

Arts & Scraps uses 28 tons of recycled industrial materials to help 275,000 people of all ages and abilities think, create and learn each year. Visit the Eastside Detroit location to stuff a bag and visit Scrap Junction, an interactive area where creativity and learning meet. Choose from 300 unusual materials and purchase kits for 1 or 35. Also available: die cutters, book binders and a badge maker. Workshops and birthday parties are held at scheduled times. Invite the ScrapMobile to your location for workshops or event activities.


Specialty areas:

  • Treasure Island:  interesting items from individual donors
  • A Buck & Up:  individual kits, bagged sticky dots, sticky foam shapes, colored sand, paper and more
  • Fabric Heaven:  a 9’ x 9’ room dedicated to fabric 
  • Always Christmas:  a shelf of interesting holiday items 
  • Tool Shed:  die cutters, book binders, laminator and badge maker

Also at Arts & Scraps:

  • Field Trips: 2 projects w/your theme, Scrap Junction, then fill a bag; schools, community and neighborhood groups
  • Scout Badge Workshops:  4 projects to badge theme
  • Birthday parties: create 3 projects and shop, family brings food and handles opening of presents
  • Volunteer: Student or adult groups prep materials, assemble kits at our warehouse
  • Individuals “play store” with us during public hours

At group locations, featuring the ScrapMobile or Ten Buck Truck:

  • Student Workshops:  1 project, choose from 9 curriculum themes, shop on the ScrapMobile.
  • Multi Session Visits:  6 to 8 week sessions: custom themes, Fun & Fitness 
  • Events: a custom-designed project at public or private events, sponsorship package for ScrapMobile
  • Birthday Parties:  2 projects on our tables in your home, shop on ScrapMobile
  • Parent/child workshops:  one-hour sessions for parents and children creating side by side. 
  • Adult training:  for teachers, group leaders or parents; creativity and learning with things you own

Directions:  We’re on the east side of Detroit, near the Grosse Pointes.
Take I-94 to the Cadieux exit, #223.  Turn south towards the lake.  Immediately turn right on Harper, the first street.  Go ¾ miles.  We’re on the right at the corner of Harper & Bedford.  Look for the wrought iron fence and globe lights.
